Client Overview

A WSD client since 2016, The Swig Company is a large commercial real estate firm that excels at acquiring, financing, asset managing and selling urban office and multi-family properties. Headquartered in downtown San Francisco at 220 Montgomery Street, The Swig Company manages an extensive portfolio of approximately 7.5 million square feet in the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York City. WSD manages multiple websites for The Swig Company including themillsbuilding.com, 369pinestreet.com, 399elcamino.com, and the main website, swigco.com.

The Challenge

In 2023, The Swig Company enlisted Gensler to engage a redesign of its main swigco.com website. The effort focused on improvement of the user interface, promotion of property acquisitions, and consistent branding application.

The Swig Company wanted to apply the interface design to the existing programming, without rebuilding the site from the ground up. Rebuilding the front end of a website while leaving the back end intact is harder than it may seem.

WebSight Design needed to connect existing programming modules in new ways, and add smaller programming features to allow the front end to function as intended. Different templates for different viewports (e.g. mobile vs. laptop) were needed to facilitate design consistency across multiple platforms.

Results

WSD’s production team performed delicate coding surgery, which resulted in a successful new presentation layer, produced for a lower cost than a full rebuild. WSD also made sure the new design met guidelines for WCAG accessibility regarding color contrast standards, CSS animations, and more.

The new frontend work resulted in an elegant, mobile-friendly interface that features on-brand graphics, large fonts, and clear messaging.
